Geography Charades!

After studying their geography terms for our first social studies unit, students used their bodies to act out the terms. Immediately following charades, students labeled their online journal maps.

Latitude and Longitude–A Classroom Exploration

Students were asked to relate the location of items in the classroom. They found it was much easier and more specific when we made a grid. After using the grid to specify locations in the classroom, students recorded the locations in their online journals.

When asked to write a poem inspired by their fingerprints, we had some powerful poems. One student also wrote a limerick AND a song. Here’s the song!

Fingerprint Poems 9/19/13

In class, we examined our fingerprints closely with a jeweler’s loupe. Then we drew our fingerprints. Next we used our fingerprint art as inspiration for a poem. Here are the poems we wrote.
