In social studies, students participated in an underwater archaeological simulation to learn about early European explorers. They divided up in pairs. Each pair had a diver and a research scientist. After diving for an object (either an artifact or a natural object that scientists may have learned about from a ship log or journal), they noted where on the sunken ship they found it, and then they searched for information about the artifact or object. They wrote about why this artifact might have been important to a research scientist.
